All About Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, is just 35 miles from Girdwood, an incredible drive up the scenic Seward Highway. Anchorage is the first stop for many visitors to the state. Home to almost half of the state's residents, Anchorage is a metropolis surrounded by wilderness, miles of coast, mountain ranges, hundreds of lakes and rivers, glaciers, ski resorts, excellent fishing, and nearly 20 state parks. It is also host to some of Alaska’s well-known wildlife. It is not uncommon for residents to see moose and bears right in their own backyards.

Anchorage is alive year-round with adventure, recreation, seasonal festivities, sporting events and more. Summer days are endless, with Alaska's midnight sun shining at all hours. Dazzling displays of flowers adorn homes and storefronts, and live music fills the air. Wild Salmon on Parade sculptures decorate city blocks, while kings and silvers are caught right downtown in Ship Creek.

During winter, Anchorage is truly a wonderland. There is an ice rink downtown, and thousands of lights decorate the city and bring a warmth to those cold Alaska nights.

Anchorage offers plenty of nature and entertainment if you choose to leave your cozy bed and breakfast and explore surrounding areas of Girdwood.
